Director of Advancement
Position Summary:
The Director of Advancement is a strategic leader responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive fundraising and community relations program to support the Cleveland Lutheran High School Association. This role involves cultivating relationships with donors, alumni, parents, and the wider community to secure philanthropic support for capital projects, scholarships, endowments, and operational needs. This position requires a passion for Christian education, a proven track record in fundraising and development, and strong leadership and interpersonal skills to inspire and unite the community in support of the mission of the Cleveland Lutheran High School Association. The Director of Advancement reports directly to the CLHSA Superintendent and manages all employees who work in Advancement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Serve as the fundraising leader for the Cleveland Lutheran High School Association and its schools - Lutheran East and Lutheran West.
-Represent the Cleveland Lutheran High School Association at local churches and with other Christian non-profit organizations.
-Meet regularly with donors and potential donors to the CLHSA.
-Manage all aspects of fundraising campaigns – Capital Campaigns, Annual Fund, Endowment, and Triumph Fund.
-Develop and manage planned giving strategies.
-Promote CLHSA to foundations, individuals, corporations, churches, organizations, the media and the community.
-Cultivate and solicit major gifts. Collaborate with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Heads of Schools, and School Alumni Directors frequently.
-Manage all named scholarships including annual meetings with the donors.
-Identify appropriate grants across all areas within the CLHSA and ensure grant applications are submitted in a timely fashion.
-Manage the Gift Intake process and the “Thank You” process for all gifts that are given to the CLHSA, its schools, and the Lutheran Scholarship Granting Organization of Ohio.
-Manage the distribution of yearly tax receipts for both the CLHSA and the Lutheran Scholarship Granting Organization of Ohio.
-Oversee and manage all functions of the donor database - Raiser’s Edge.
-Manage the work of the Development Officer, the Office Manager, and the Director of the Lutheran Scholarship Granting Organization.
-Convene weekly Advancement Team meetings and use them to further the Advancement initiatives of the CLHSA.
-Work with local businesses to serve as corporate sponsors of the CLHSA and its programs.
-Serve as a Board Member of the Lutheran Scholarship Granting Organization of Ohio.
- Oversee the management of all CLHSA development events.
-Work with the Finance Director to reconcile all gifts on a monthly basis.
Requirements
Director of Advancement Requirements:
-Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Non-Profit Administration. Master’s Degree preferred
-5+ years experience
-Deep understanding of and commitment to Christian education as well as the mission and theology of the CLHSA
-Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Raiser’s Edge and other business software
-Deep interpersonal skills that foster strong relationships with donors, community members, and fellow employees
-Ability to prioritize among many projects, work as part of a team, and think analytically
-Strategic Planning experience
